What is Microsoft Teams? Microsoft Teams is a central pillar of the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, serving as the primary communication and collaboration hub for many businesses. From enterprise-level video conferencing to instant messaging and file sharing, Teams is the “digital office” for a significant portion of the global workforce.
The Incident: On December 19, 2025, Microsoft Teams reported a service disruption that left some users unable to communicate effectively on the platform. The incident primarily manifested as messaging delays, where sent messages would hang in a “sending” state or fail to deliver entirely.
According to reports from Bleeping Computer, the issues were first detected around 14:30 PM ET. While the application remained accessible for some, core functions including chat, presence updates, and meeting joins showed latency. As of approximately 15:30 PM ET Microsoft Teams had fully recovered.
Microsoft’s official X account (@MSFT365Status) acknowledged the incident, stating:
“We’re investigating an issue in which users may be experiencing Microsoft Teams messaging delays and problems with other service functions. We’re observing recovery in our telemetry and are continuing our analysis to identify the impacted scenarios and determine the cause of this issue.“
The Impact: This is an evolving issue. Check back for updates on the reasons behind the outage as the investigation comes to a close. As mentioned in the alert from Microsoft’s official X account, message delays could result in Teams users experiencing lagging chats with messages taking extended time to appear.
